A large misconception out there is that cellulite is solely
related to being overweight. However, skinny women are just more likely to get
cellulite and often have a much more severe case than their heavier
counterparts. Why? Because cellulite is occurs when there is an imbalance
between the levels of fat and muscle in the legs and thighs.
Or, put another way, too much fat and too little muscle. And
when we talk about fat, it is a different type to the one that causes the
flabby stomach. Cellulite fat exists just below the skin and is used by the
body to regulate temperature, and as a backup for pregnancy and child birth.
This means that body is extremely reluctant to get rid of this fat, even when
you are exercising intensively.
By building up your levels of lean muscle, it is possible to
reduce the appearance of cellulite. Muscle provides a good base for the
cellulite fat, meaning that it wonâ??t clump together as much. It will also
stretch the skin and fat, reducing the dimpling. Finally, fat is smooth and shapely,
and will give your body a more feminine appearance.
In order to build your levels of muscle, focus on leg cellulite exercises
like the squat, lunges and leg curls.
